Simon has been Director of Student Services at Swansea University since 2003. The Department consists of Residential Services, English Language Training Services and Student Support Services that encompass Disability, Money Advice and Support, Student Wellbeing and International Student Advice.

A Law and Sociology graduate of Cardiff University Simon spent two years as the elected Education and Welfare Officer at Cardiff University Students Union and was a member of the National Committee of Enquiry into Higher Education (Dearing Review) that reported in 1997.

Simon worked for Student Volunteering UK and as Campaigns Officer for Mencap before returning to the higher education sector in 2000 as Public Affairs Officer for Higher Education Wales (HEW), moving to Campaigns Officer for Universities UK in 2001.

Simon joined the AMOSSHE Executive in 2004 and has been Chair since September 2008.
